What is the difference between levelling and stabilising?

Levelling corrects the side-to-side or front-to-back angle of the caravan. Stabilising reduces movement after the van has been levelled and parked. Corner steadies are generally used for support, not for lifting the full weight of the caravan. Use wheel-based products or a suitable jack for height adjustment, then lower the support legs as directed by the product maker.

How do I choose the right jack or landing leg?

Check the working load, closed height, lift range, mounting method and space around the drawbar or chassis. The product must suit the load at that point, not just the total caravan weight. Also consider how you will operate it, including handle access and clearance from gas bottles or storage boxes. Match replacement legs to the original mounting pattern whenever possible.

Can I use levelling gear on soft ground?

You can, but the base needs enough support to prevent sinking or tilting. Use a broad, strong pad suited to the load and place it on firm ground. Avoid stacking loose pieces that can slide apart. Recheck the setup after the caravan has settled, especially after rain. Never place hands or feet under a raised wheel or unsupported part of the caravan.

When should I replace a levelling or stabiliser part?

Replace parts that are bent, cracked, badly corroded or difficult to operate after basic maintenance. Worn gears, damaged pins and loose mounting points can affect how the unit carries load. A missing foot or damaged handle may be replaceable on its own. Check the model number and dimensions first, then inspect nearby brackets and fasteners for related damage.
